Michael Steele was chosen as the leader of the Republican Party. Under his leadership, the Republicans lost two run off elections. Some Republicans are voicing anger at the direction Steele wants to take the party. The party wants him to back down.

The Pennsylvania senator Arlen Specter was facing a tough election decided to join the Democratic Party. He was facing a tough primary against Club for Growth chairman Pat Toomey, Toomey is the Republican challenger. Congressman Joe Sestek will challenge Specter in the Democratic primaries.

Former Minnesota Republican Senator Norm Coleman fought all the way to the Minnesota Supreme Court against actor, comedian and talk radio host, Al Franken. Minnesota senate race went to Al Franken. Franken was sworn in as U.S. Senator later this year.

Republican Senator Jon Ensign of Nevada recently got caught in an extramarital affair, and now is facing an ethical charges.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (will face a challenge in 2010, explained later) is stressing the Democrats to support the health care reform.

The race between Scott Murphy and Jim Tedisco ends with a major loss for the Republicans. Tedisco, a Republican New York assemblyman was heavily endorsed by conservative talk radio and Fox News. In a tight race, Murphy beats the Republican by hundreds of votes.

President Obama was "thrilled" to have Specter on the team. Specter was an union-backed Republican who voted with Maine Republican senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins in passage of the controversial $787 billion tax stimulus plan.

Michael Steele, the first African American Republican to lead the national party, we have to talk! Brother to brother. You and many Black Republicans want to wrangle the African American vote away from the Democrats. The things that turn Blacks away from Republicans is simply the ignorance that comes from its conservative base. You should realize that every time you bow down to Rush Limbaugh, Fox News and those who drive the party to the "far right" or its "extremes" kiss the game goodbye!

Many people from Congress have defected from party.

-Jim Jeffords former Vermont senator have left Republicans to become an independent who caucus with the Democrats.
-Richard Selby, Alabama senator left the Democrats to become a Republican.
-Norm Coleman, former Minnesota senator left the Democrats to become a Republican, and is fighting against Democrat Al Franken.
-Joe Lieberman left the Democrats to become an independent.
-Representative from California Loretta Sanchez left the Republicans to join her sister Linda (Sanchez), a Democrat.
-Before this switch Arlen Specter was originally a Democrat before the switch.
-And of course, Strom Thurmond, Jesse Helms and the Dixiecrats (State's Right Democratic Party) all became Republicans after 1972.

Sean Hannity debated actor Charles Grodin on torture. Hannity stated that he would participate in being "waterboard" if it would go to charity. Liberal commentator from MSNBC, Keith Olbermann has made a wager for how long the conservative talk radio host can handle the pressure of torture. Surely, we know Hannity won't do it. After all, he's a......well it's not pretty.
