This is a title sequence that I made for a digital compositing unit on my course, FdA Interactive Media at the Arts Institute at Bournemouth UK. It was made in Flash and AfterEffects, and was designed on the theme of Soviet Russia and the USSR, using royalty-free music ('По долинам и по взгорьям' / 'Po dolinam i po vzgoriam', translates as "Through valleys and over hills" by T. Aturov / S. Alimov. Find this mp3 and many more at http://www.marxists.org/history/ussr/sounds/ ). I tried to use the style of Soviet Propaganda poster art, and furthered it by representing the boost of efficiency that the Soviet authorities gave to the existing industrial assets of the country. • Wow, thats pretty epic. I want to apply to the Bournemouth Arts Institute, but apparently it's hard to get into. What kind of things do you need to do before you apply, academic wise and experience wise...?

  • It's really not that hard. As long as you have a well presented portfolio ready for the interview and you're prepared to talk about your work, you'll sale through. I got an unconditional offer letter, which I was quite chuffed with, and I thought my work was mostly unexciting - on reflection though I suppose the ideas behind it were strong even if I can't really draw. TBH, if you can work well under your own steam without needing a tutor to guide you a lot, AIB is right for you. If not, avoid!

  • Also, I went to them with (uncompleted) A-levels in Fine Art, Graphic Art and Information Communication Technology. If you have equivalent higher education, that's fine too. In fact, they'll consider anyone - it's all based on portfolio, but if you apply with low grades they might not offer an interview.

  • Of course I meant 'sail', not 'sale'.

  • You can find a more suitable typeface i'm sure, more in tune with history, while being more legible. Take a look at Saul Bass, very clean and concise. remember, clutter is a killer. Continue the motif shown with Ava Knight and Danya Cussler. Adding a red drop shadow behind most (if not the rest) of the lines, while continuing to mimic the stop/go mass production line feel would strengthen the piece.

    Good job

  • Oh, and yeah - I wanted to continue the production line theme all through the titles, but I completely ran out of time.

  • Этих дней не смолкнет слава

    Не померкнет никогда

    И останутся как в сказке

    Как манящие огни

    Штурмовые ночи Спасска

    Волочаевские дни

  • Very good. Just like an Eisenstein movie, with the Soviet Constructivist style. Show this to someone when you apply for a job, you'll get it for sure.
