Inkheart is an upcoming 2009 fantasy film, directed by Iain Softley. It is based on the 2003 German novel of the same name by Cornelia Funke. The film was first slated for release on March 19, 2008, but has been pushed back to January 9, 2009, partially because of New Line's marketing worries in connection with now-concluded 20072008 Writers Guild of America strike. It will now be released on January 30, 2009.

Inkheart Production

The author of the book on which the film was based, Cornelia Funke was quoted as saying that "we had our second screening (summer 2007), which went well, and I really loved the movie, but they are still changing things, especially at the end."

As with the production of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, the production progressed very slowly. The American release was originally slated for Christmas 2007, but then was changed to March 19, 2008. In addition, due to the writer's strike, the film was further pushed back and is now set to open January 30, 2009.

Inkheart was filmed at Shepperton Studios near London, England and on location in 2006/2007.

Inkheart Plot

When Mo (Brendan Fraser) reads aloud from books, he has the ability to make the characters come out of the book, into real life. Mo discovered his power when his daughter Meggie (Eliza Bennett), was just a baby. Mo read aloud from the book Inkheart, which caused several of the book's wicked characters, including Capricorn (Andy Serkis), to literally come to life. But while he read them out of the book, he accidentally read Meggies mother, Theresa (Sienna Guillory) into the story.

Meggie is 12 years old, but knows nothing of her father's bizarre and powerful talent. But Meggie is annoyed that Mo still refuses to read to her. Capricorn, a man who burns for pleasure and being so evil that he would "feed a bird to a cat on purpose, just to watch it being torn apart", has searched for Meggie's father for years, seeking to twist Mo's powerful talent to his own dark means. Finally, Capricorn realizes that the best way to lure Mo to his remote mountain hideaway is to use his beloved daughter Meggie as bait. While Meggie discovers Capricorn's ruthless plan, she too, can pluck people from pages and bring them to life, but it takes a while for her to realize her power.

  • @destroyer1fly Amazon!

  • @arahavez08 the book usually is better than the film, and so when you watch a movie based on a book, just think of it as a entirely different film - don't compare them...

  • the book is really where i can buy it ???

  • I found that the film ruined the book, I realize that they wanted it to have a happy ending and everything but they ruined all chances they had of doing Inkspell and Inkdeath.

  • Currently reading the book...

  • I was going to comment about how the book was better than the movie but it seems like a lot of people have beat me to it.
