kid I have been homeschoold. it is the best thing that me family did for me. if you don't like it, just get over it. I am 17, I have a good job and I am in college, the government is paying for it and I have better "social skills" then the kids from public school. homeschooling is the best thing that you can do for a kid

This young man has given a fine speech - very well delivered and written. Excellent eye contact, body language, annunciation, and speech structure.
This is a testimony to Homeschooling in itself: homeschoolers are more likely be effective communicators - both in written and verbal form.

@Radetzky19 It depends on how you homeschool. Some parents don't make the effort of socializing their children. When I homeschool I will. Also, children in public school are socialized by their peers who know no more about how to behave in social situations than they do. I want to homeschool to give my children more freedom as I said in another response above.

@lukeus02 Teachers are biased much of the time. I want to homeschool my kids when I have them, and I will homeschool them so they will have more freedom to develop their own opinions and ideas and have more of a choice in their education.

I wanted to adress another issue that Jordan did not touch on in his speech. It is often assumed that parents are indoctrinating their kids when they elect to HS them. To this I say.... yes sir, we are. We indoctrinate them into having manners, to not curse, to be respectful, to think for themselves, that sex should wait until marriage. We don't allow them to walk around with their pants hanging below their butt cracks or with slang on their T-shirts... I guess we are horrible parents! Thank God

Jordan makes a lot of valid points in his speech. For us, we decided to HS because our oldest daughter has Aspergers. She is very smart but was struggling to learn in a PS enviroment. Peers at that age tend to tease kids with special needs. This caused her grades to slip and for her to become depressed. She has been a HS student for 2 yrs. Her grades are excellent and she could not be happier. Her younger sis is also reaping the benefits of Home Schooling as well.

homeschooling is the best option you can learn whatever you want and at your own pace , schooling is a form of communism which seeks to leave out the individual over the majority at least in primary/secondary education however tertiary/university education is where learning really takes place(out-side of the family) however learning and education are two totally different subjects

I am not trying to bash homeschoolers Im simply saying that if someone wants to go that route .. fine, but that does not make them better at all in many ways. Some of my friends in college were homeschoolers and you can easily tell which ones are, and they always seemed to struggle socially (in comparison to public school kids). IT doesnt help in my own family that my one aunt and uncle homeschooled their kids and they indoctrinated them like crazy.

@jdrake90 and homeschooled kids are not necessarily better they may be trained to work harder in their home environment, but they do not have as many options delivered to them as they would going to a public school... the parent is not an expert and can only do so much. Esp not going to a public school, they are not immersed with a diverse group of ppl and have clubs or sports and music after school . You turned out ok, but many homeschoolers are awkward and ignorant of many realities.

home schooling, what a terrifying prospect. hopefully this nut-job idea will soon be outlawed.

What makes you say that? Isn't this a free country?

yes but what about the freedom of children to have a free and fair education, without their parents bias, and bigotry forced upon them, a key example is the families who teach their children creationism at home be the concept is to reidiculous to be taught in any decent acedemic institution

So you'd rather have the government decide what to teach your children? What about parents that don't want the government teaching their kids sex education at an early age? What about parents that want to spend time with their children? Is that a crime? And who made the government the final authority on what should and shouldn't be taught to YOUR kids. They belong to the parent, NOT the government.

If a parent wants to teach creationism, that is a religious right, not an academic flaw. Again, they are the ones who are responsible for the child, and should be allowed to teach their OWN kids whatever they please, as long as they do not condone unlawful behavior (murder... etc.)

well it would be economic suicide, because the only country that would recognize a home school qualification would be...wait NONE, and no i disagree, the parent should not have the right to teach there child creationism as it is a completly riduculous thing, much like teaching a child satan worshiping for example. The child should have an equal chance to succeed in life and to form their own opions on things, this is somthing that would be completely hampered by teaching creationism

Why then... do homeschool students have higher grades (based on SAT and such) and why do colleges accept homeschool students in much larger percentages?
Its REALLY obvious that you're not from the US.
