Malolactic Bacteria:

I get the yeast at my local wine shop. The corker and corks came from there too. The bottles are just recycled from wine bought in the store.

  • The hydrometer, when are your measuring the sugar content, before or after you've let the yest do it's job? If after the yest does it's job wouldn't you want to just put the hydrometer in the jug of juice?

  • @ptompkins1976 I'm taking a sample from the large jug. Putting it into a glass makes it easier to retrieve the hydrometer. The neck of the jug is fairly narrow.

  • Yea I get my airlocks at midwest supply. its pretty easy to order a few of them. Anyways I liked the video. Keep them comin! Its great we have a place like u tube to share ideas!

  • @paintasylum0 Thanks for the compliment and for watching!!!

  • @teddyd30 i take back what i said before, i added a few more peppermints to the finished wine and it is really good. my mom and brother both love it, including myself. and neither my me nor my mom drink much and brother doesnt like wine much. the peppermint wine is delicious

  • @teddyd30 ya you get more alcohol content out of wine or champagne yeasts, bread only yields about 11%. and the wine is alright. not the best but definitely drinkable, just the bread yeast leaves a taste that isnt the best.

  • @hirodagger I think you'll get more alcohol out of wine yeast. They're the same species, but wine yeast is bred for alcohol production. Just like certain breeds of cow are meant for beef and certain breeds are for dairy.

Sounds like you've got the beginnings of peppermint schnapps. Let me know how it goes!! Thanks for watching!!!

  • @mbmanbat im making wine out of sugar, peppermints, and normal bread yeast. smells like wine so far, but lets see how it tastes lol. i say try it out, worst thing to happen is you dont like it

  • OMGosh! I want to make peach wine. I like your idea of buying the juice cans and using them. This is a great video. Thank you so much!

  • Can you do it with sugar water and yeast

  • helps thanks!

  • @halesworth01 sorry meant to say (WEIGHT FOR WEIGHT) NOT 20% alcohol!!!!! with 1 gallon of wine with an O.G of 1.079-1.085 you would yield only about 5 to 8% A.B.V with bread yeast rather than 12-14% with a quality wine yeast

  • @TheLogTog Just for your info and other peoples PLEASE PLEASE refrain from using BREAD yeast as all yeasts ARE NOT the same thing....you know doubt finished with a very sweet extremely low in alcohol wine? this is because bread yeast will produce copious amounts of CO2 (80%) and very little alcohol (20%) WEIGHT FOR WEIGHT NOT ACTUALLY 20% because this is how they make bread "rise" if you tried the other way round making bread with wine yeast IT WOULDN'T rise!!! ONLY USE WINE YEAST!!!!

  • @local614bro The yeast out of a pack is sterile and does the same "job" as the yeasts that form in nature BUT without the "bad" yeasts that turn the wine sour and to vinegar..hope this explains it better?
