Friendship NY fully restored 1881 Silsby Steam Fire Pumper is pumping at the Cattaraugus County Bi-Centennial Celebration in Salamanca, NY. The FFD's Silsby Restoration Project was the 2005 Save Our History national award winner for community history preservation. This project united the community and energized the fire department. The steamer was named Daisy in 1881 by the Silsby Manufacturing Company. The steamer, hose cart and 1000 ft of hose were purchased for $3500.00. FFD also has the original steam preheater for the steam fire pumper. This preheater is the only one known to exist. FFD also still has its first piece of motorized fire apparatus a 1933 Buffalo Fire Pumper. There are 2 fires halls on Main Street that were built in 1881, the steamer hall and a hose company hall. In 2006, Miss Daisy pumped water over the same church steeple she pumped over in 1881to finalize her purchase to finalize her restoration.
