I thought you'd like a look at this enormous 1941 Union Pacific, coal-burning, steam locomotive. It's a 4-8-8-4 type that is known as a Big Boy. It measures more than 132 ft long and weighs over 600 tons. Hope you find it interesting, thanks for watching!

Filmed at The Museum of Transportation in St. Louis, MO

Background track is Whiskey on the Mississippi by Kevin MacLeod. Available under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported license. Download link:http://music.incompetech.com/royaltyfree2/Whiskey%20on%20the%20Mississippi.mp3

MacLeod's description:

Genre: Blues
Length: 3:15
Instruments: Guitar, Bass, Kit, Organ, EP
Tempo: 90

With a jumping bass and off-beat syncopation, this is straight from Memphis' Beale Street. The Hammond organ and electric guitar play together as longtime friends, while the melody changes hands from guitar to organ to electric piano. 011

  • @EIRR1 okay, I also have a DVD about 3985, I'll also admit that I don't know every little detail about alot of different locomotive's

  • @EIRR1 Correction, Union Pacific 3985 is a 4-6-6-4 'Challenger' type steam locomotive.

  • the big boy steam locomotive's measure about 177 feet in length, & this one is only 1 of about 12 that the Union Pacific had built 3985 is a big boy steam Locomotive as well & 3985 is THE only big boy steam locomotive that the Union Pacific Railroad send's out to certain place's...
