@Labienus One of my favorite recordings by Horowitz is the "Staendchen" transcription Schubert-Liszt.-I highly recommend it to you,no human being EVER played the piano more beautiful.-

@prinzparsiphal Again IMO more complicated than that. he was apparently a gay man in this relationship even when they were first married it evoked shock from those who knew him H also achieved status from the Toscannini name which was huge surehe deserved more happiness in his personal life but he was a very difficult person anyway no real profession she was Madame H mostly he needed her remember all thes einterviews are from when he was an old man the story of Sonya is very sad Wanda suffered

@Labienus I keep feeling pity for Horowitz,he deserved somebody else.-This woman was a manipulative dragon,who had no real profession and lived on the earnings of the pianist,treating him like a puppy.-Period.-

For example she said of the posth. B-flat Major Sonata by Schubert that it was far too long.-Oh holy woman,next time Franz shall come down here he will produce a version "light" so you,unlike after the 1953 recital,will be able to go shopping before 6 p.m.-

@prinzparsiphal Whatever needs the relationship provided for each of them, without her, H probably would have ended up in an institiution. H was "spoiled" well before he met her. Despite the tensions, she made his life bearable in many ways. While no musician, I think she had a great love and knowledge of it-and a uncany sense of what was best for his sound. I think you misunderstand the mystery of relationships and what they provide.
