from Hardball with Chris Matthews, June 24, 2008.

Michael Eric Dyson, Sociology Professor from Georgetown and prolific author and scholar on African American, theological, and cultural issues, debates conservative Pat Buchanan on the recent issue Focus on the Family chief James Dobson has taken with Barack Obama's (gasp!) advocation of the separation of church and state when it comes to the interpretation of the Constitution and the issue of abortion.

  • A final point if a may; you appear to also overlook that in these writings and others, Paul, under the guidance of the Spirit of God directs Christians to do all manner of things which we would today also view as insufferable& harsh. He instructed them to accept ALL persecutions for the sake of Christ;; he reminds them that suffering & even dying for Christ is greater then any earthly gain..Jesus is to be glorified in ALL things - Dietrich Bonehoffer & Dr. King also believed that too.

  • Ah, 'uh yeah, like what is your point.? You may wish to take a basic course on Christian theology. There are what are considered basic points of systemic study& contextual interpretation.U seem, however, to resort to a means of limited understanding which is extremely simplistic, uninformed & commonly relied upon by Islamic apologists (among others).Try reading Susan Bauer- better yet, meditate on Paul's Galatians. Sorry but there is NO WAY U are going to get the Bible to prescribe inhumanity!

  • @shieldsff , I disagree, it seems to be presented as being socially normative:

Colossians 3:22 Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to win their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord.1 Timothy 6:1 All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect, so that God's name and our teaching may not be slandered.

  • It's not that slavery doesn't exist or isn't described in the Bible - it is NOT prescribed nor held out as socially normative or God's desired will (the Hebrews were themselves held as slaves for 400+ years). Slavery under God's O/T mandate was a response to the realities & evils of wicked men. It was intended, under God's direct control to be punitive, corrective, curtailed,&non-dehumanizing. Enslavement is ultimately a metaphor for the sinful condition of ALL men & shows the need 4 a deliverer

  • @shieldsff , are you saying there are no passages or statements in the Bible that justify slavery?? Check again.

  • Buchanan is a scumbag an old school scumbag and I think all religions are crap.

Wake up Wise up Raise up No More Glory for old glory!!!
