People are actually arguing about lions vs hyenas? Come on, this isn't the Lion King.

It's not about one being better than the other, since both use numbers to kill. While we all like lions because they are more "noble" in a sense, lol. Hyena's are quite deadly and have been known to scare off lionesses by themselves alone.

Instead of arguing, we should respect what nature truly is, and how we're the only parasitic species on Earth.

Hyenas are cowards? I don't think so. Lions are bigger, stronger, and better armed than hyenas. Yet, the hyenas throw down against lions frequently. Calling an animal that fights bigger, stronger, better armed predators a coward is just wrong headed.

Give the hyenas their due credit & show some respect.

@zestfx1 Stronger?? LOL! So ill-informed... they have more accessories at their disposal, but the hyena has a much much greater bite than a lion. A hyena's bite force is strong enough to pulverize bone.

@ScisMacGillicutty So true. There is one scene on that documentray I had to watch again in slow motion. When the male lion apparantly "brakes the matriachs back" You see they have edited the clip to show a different Hyena. When the Male Lion attacks the Hyena Matriach two other clan members come and bite the Lion on his rump which makes him let go of the Matriach and she runs away. Now would a Hyena with a broken back be able to run away? FAKE! Complete anti Hyena minipulation, like you said.

And for all you UNTHINKING lion fans (thinking one recognize the hyenas' strengths and virtues): I'd rather be a smart hyena than a ... let's say *cognitively limited* lion. As the hyena can match and surpass the chimpanzee on some tests of intelligence, it must surely leave a felid predator far far behind in this skill—which may be why lions are more in need of species protection than the hyena.

@ashdog236 It's not just The Lion King but "documentaries" like Nat'l Geo's Eternal Enemies (a piece of anti-hyena blood porn) that contribute to the problem. Eternal Enemies is supposed to be a documentary, but there's nothing serious or informative about it—and must be used in dozens of hyena hating videos here. From leaving the hyenas nameless while giving the lions stirring names to triumphant music as the male lion kills a clan matriarch at the show's climax, it's pure manipulation.
