Antonin Dvorak's "From the New World" Symphony 'rough sketch' by 8fatfat8 & Poi Dog Pondering

In late 2004 Poi Dog Pondering was invited to collaborate with the Chicago Sinfonietta.
To develop an arrangement of music to play in concert at Symphony Center.
Based on an 8fatfat8 remix of Dvorak's "From the New World" &
blended with drum samples from ORBITAL's 20th century landmark electronic track
"The Girl With The Sun In Her Head". ...Paul Mertens, Susan Voelz and Frank Orrrall began arranging the music and editing the video for a live performance in Chicago's Symphony Center.

Poi dog Pondering's interpretation of Dvorak's "From the New World" is more social political:
The "New World" holds both hope & the disintegration of innocence.

PDP also superimposes the "new world" trajectory of life experience arc of the human life cycle.
Birth to Death. (Disillusionment & Awe)

March 21st 2005 performance performance was Arranged by
Paul Mertens & Susan Voelz and was Conducted by Paul Freeman.

The Chicago Sinfonietta wanted an exorbitant fee from PDP to document the show, so PDP declined. The music here is just an Audio Work Study based on sample work by Frank Orrall & cello by Alison Chesley.

Poi dog pondering for this performance was:
Paul Mertens
Susan Voelz
Ron Hall
Dag Juhlin
Rick Gehrenbeck
Earl Talbot
Ted Cho
Alison Chesley
Charlette Wortham
Kornell Hargrove
Frank Orrall

Technical assistance: Martin Stebbing, Marco Ferrari & Luke Savisky
The Video was edited together by Frank Orrall from the films of Godfrey Reggio, Charles and Ray Eames & Sydney Pollack.

(this footage was later cannibalized for the God's G videdo :)

  • Wow thank you for the journey ... I feel like I am not alone in my sensitivity to the world around me, experiencing the music & visuals took me on a journey away from that emptiness I felt this morning when I woke... you know that place where you have accomplished much, travelled much, yet missing something ... this reminded me I am not alone - others see and feel what I do :D

This movie touched my heart & soul MAHALO! (Thank You)

I have experienced the beauty of life - I am grateful...
