There`s no such thing as "pockets of air". Turbulence is caused by rapid changes of air streams, the also rapid moving aircraft is flying through. ;)

Were you able to see the Great Wall when you landed?? Luckily when I went to Beijing it was a clear day and the Great Wall was visible!

Our most memorable flight was landing in Moscow in 1989, flying Aero(flop)! I'd be willing to bet our pilots were military rejects. They landed like we were falling down a flight of steps!
