One State! One Country! One Chief! Franco! Franco! Franco!

"Franco presided over a government that was basically a military dictatorship, but he realized that it needed a regular civil structure to broaden its support; this was to be derived mainly from the antileftist middle classes. On April 19, 1937, he fused the Falange (the Spanish fascist party) with the Carlists and created the rebel regime's official political movement. While expanding the Falange into a more pluralistic group, Franco made it clear that it was the government that used the party and not the other way around. Thus, his regime became an institutionalized authoritarian system, differing in this respect from the fascist party-states of the German and Italian models.

As commander in chief during the Civil War, Franco was a careful and systematic leader. He made no rash moves and suffered only a few temporary defeats as his forces advanced slowly but steadily; the only major criticism directed at him during the campaign was that his strategy was frequently unimaginative. Nevertheless, because of the relatively superior military quality of his army and the continuation of heavy German and Italian assistance, Franco won a complete and unconditional victory on April 1, 1939."

  • @Thcjazz Your accusation of Franco being a 'Fascist' is debatable, however I'll make the presumption your one that believes anyone remotely authoritarian classes as 'Fascist'. Also, you wish to know why this man is a saviour? - He prevented Communists from taking Spain, of whom 130,000+ were Atheists who destroyed Spanish Churches and Christian artefacts as well as raping nuns and murdering priests. Franco is also responsible for sparing Spain and his people the horrors of the Second World War.

  • @Epionea Actually the Fascists were the Italians under the leadership of Mussolini. Spain is not Italy. Franco is not Mussolini. Pears are not Apples and Apples are not Peaches.

His movement doesn't even have an "-ism" trade mark name like: (fascism! communism! capitalism! etc) No bogus pocus Ideology, it's just business.

  • @FNX604 Yes, the Italians were the founding fathers of Fascism and much can be given to D'Annunzio and the Syndicalists for being the route of the movement. The ideology of Fascism however did, without question, influence Hitler, Franco and others to form parties based upon similar values - thus 'Fascism' became more of a blanket term.

As I stated before, it can be debated whether Spain was Fascist, but we can certainly say it was anti-democratic.

  • @Correctiestift Well aren't you a funny one.

  • VIVA CRISTO REY!

  • Britain needs a Franco. I dont believe he was a fascist. For the empire towards God was the slogan.

  • creo en dios ante todas las cosas y este hombre no nos salvó de nada. se acomodó en el poder y mató a los que iban en su contra. y eso no es ser catolico ni creyente, eso es ser un asesino como los republicanos hacian con los que le seguian

  • @Epionea Remember every country that had the word "Domocratic" as a part of its official name was a democracy only in name. There is a saying that good wine need no bush (if it is true you don't need to advertise it) says much about calling oneself a democrat. All it means that at some point there is an election; that is it. If the UK is a democracy then so was Spain. You might not get to elect the president/queen but you get to elect others...

  • @Epionea Franco called the falangistas derogativly as "our reds" and had no illusions ragaring their politics. By the 1950s he had effectivly eliminated the falangista element and relied on the Catholic league, Carlists and Monachists to fill posts in government. The "facist" element in the Nationalist coalition during the war were the falangistas. All the rest were on the right of the political spectrum. Remeber Franco had to run through a minefield like coalition.

  • @Epionea Francisco Franco was not a facist. Facism is also not right wing but LEFT WING. Mussolini was a Communist and was a member of the COMINT and so were most of those in the NAZI party (national SOCIALIST WORKERS PARTY). The only reason that the Soviets considered NAZIs right wing was because of propaganda purposes as all three (Soviet Communists, International communists and National socialists were fighting in Germany for the same bloc of voters).
