For her extraordinary work in raising humanitarian aid and awareness, Melanie Hennessy of Ennis, Ireland was named a 2010 JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World (JCI TOYP) recipient in the category of humanitarian and/or voluntary leadership.
As a child, Hennessy grew a passion for helping less fortunate people, volunteering with the Red Cross and Enable Ireland in her hometown of Ennis. After a solo trip to Nepal when she was 18, Hennessy devoted her career to generating awareness of the plight of children in the impoverished country and began raising money to open an orphanage. Together with a local businessman and philanthropist, Hennessy established TEAM Nepal and embarked on an ambitious mission to raise €40,000 for the construction of a health center for Nepalese orphans.
