I feel that dubbing fails to translate properly. You simply can't take and insert something (in this case language/culture) and expect it to fit correctly when what is being altered was created by entirely different artists in an entirely different culture and state of mind for an entirely different purpose. Dubbing is comparable to asking Dr. Dre to arrange Beethoven for a modern audience; the end result would not maintain the original artist's persona. Dubbers have but one goal: Translate = $

I just like to read :l I don't know its just what I grew up watching with my brother. I'll watch dubs if its good. But as a default I go to sub.

People hating on dubbed anime all the time. JUST WHO THE HELL DO THEY THINK THEY ARE!
-
Oh good god. To be honest Dub haters are hating only for the sake of hating. If the Dub haters can speak and understand Japanese then more power to them. If they don't then they should realize that people that dub are doing us a favor. I know non-dubbed shows have subtitles. But if I wanted to read, I would read a friggin book.

I personally like the old (pre-2000) dub. Not because of nostalgia but because they make such hilarious voice that it adds a humorous tone to it.

My native language is German and I fluently understand English , so I have watched dubbed and subbed anime in both languages.
There really are good and bad ones. I think the genre is an important factor. I think our languages just arent that fitting for the typical japanese over the top acting you get in most comedy animes and those with lots of moe, girlyish characters.
As for an eng-dub that makes me cringe thinking about....School Rumble is on the list for sure.^^

Fuck dubs lol, FMA Brotherhood has a good dub though. Subs come first and usually have better VA's so i'll stick to subs

there should not be even dub haters in the world if they dont like it fine its there opinion but just to go on dub vids on yt or w/e just to bash the dub its stupied and companies do see some ppl dont like dubs which is why they give choice of sub or dub on there dvds so dub haters should just watch the sub version and stop complainin on ppl who actually wanna hear anime in English prob solved

Hmm...I've always watched subs. Why? Because, dubbing is done to widen the potential audience, not preserve the original intent. Any dubbed anime has been changed in subtle, minor ways, or perhaps even for the better. Still, I feel dubbing as a practices belittles the art-side of anime. Film studies majors watch foreign films in their native language for a reason. That's my snooty opinion - others obviously feel more comfortable when not having to keep up with subtitles.
English dubs can actually be pretty good
BUT German, French, Czech and mainly Hungarian, NOW these are some therrible dubs

I think most of the dub haters are just crazy otakus.
It's ok to hate english voice acting if it's horrid, no problem, but to generally hate english language in any of the shows you watch is a clear sign that you're a moron.
