Nice v8 engine, lol.

cool

I modified the original so that it only took one differential and five other gears.

Hi, I am trying to gather ideas from other peoples designs to build things like this and incorporate them into larger machines. I have seen Misha van Beek's transmission and built a model of that, but you say that yours is smoother and quieter. Do you have a "blueprint" for it, or a list of the differences from Misha's so that I could build a model of yours?
Thank-you.

basicily the differential is taking the easiest root which isnt straight through the differential to the output when pressure is applied so it travels throught the casing of the differential which is geared to thee clutch gears which are geared down =)
decent look and probably awsome functionality. but I dont really get whats happening when you slow down the wheel with your finger. how come it shift gears?

its pretty hard explain exactly what is happening. but to put it as simply as I can you have 2 differentials and when there is no resistance on the axle it has a 1:1 ratio with no resistance. If you take a look you can see 2 clutches, all they are doing is putting resistance on another axle that is hooked to the pinion gear of the differntial that drops it down to approx 5.25:1 so depending on the reistance on the axle it variably shifts through that ratio range.

Cool! are you still working on the 6 leg project? My son and I are working on a praying mantis with diffirent ideas, some will be from yours. Working on an oval movement for a larger "footprint". Keep us posted on all your projects, very interesting!

Thank you, and yes I am working on the same problem with the six legged walker I am thinking about using cams to accomplish this :)
