This is an unpretentious but serious look at American miners, unions and race relations. It's also one of my favorite films. A real classic. Thank You.

@doesthistastefunny So in your opinion every coal miner that goes underground every day of his life, risking his life, is greedy? Every miner who has to carry out tons of coal to supply cities with energy doesn't know a hard day's work? Mining is a very dangerous job. Miners risk their lives every time they step into the coal mine. It's only fair that the coal companies compensate them for this risk. You think that the big shot operators have ever done anything equivalent to what the miners do?

When do get to Matewan?
You don't wanna go there mister, ain't nothing but crazy people.
You want fair pay, become a soldier and go fight for that oil. Then you'll get some fair pay. I mean, why do the poor innocent companies who are just trying to put food on their banquet tables have to suffer because of some unemployed homeless people, who are making their wives and kids sleep in tents, want to get everything they want in life at the company's expense. The workers are just being greedy! What do any of those people know about a hard day's work?
