Here's a short clip of my NYE in a nutshell.
My New Year's celebration was quite simple, and I'll just be blunt and say-
I felt uncomfortable at the NYE celebration at Victory Park here in Dallas. A multitude of people crowded together, waiting impatiently in line (in a throng to be specific) to buy alcohol and smoking weed just wasn't my idea of starting a New Year. The beauty of it, however, is that though I refused to succumb to the type of spirit everyone else had, no one else had the right to tell another what and what not to do. No doubt 3/4's of the congregation's mindset was "Man, I'm here to enjoy but what the **** are all of these people doing?" Not that my mindset was not the least bit similar to theirs so the experience was, to say the least, humbling.
There were people that night working over-time for their jobs at 24 hour diners. My family and I ate out before coming home and at Denny's in Mesquite, there were only two servers. The place was packed with people waiting to be seated and served. There were definitely impatient and rude people there, being picky with the food and extremely disrespectful to the server. There was one server for the 7 tables, including ours, and I couldn't help but over hear the remarks one of the tables were making towards him. The guy was hastily getting his worked done while being yelled at by the people he was serving.
With no sympathy for the man who was obviously worn out at 2 in the morning, the table called for the manager. Here I was, sitting in my chair, half coward and half imprudent, wanting to A) kick the men in their faces B) kick the men in their faces and C) perhaps slash their tires before they left.
My family and I were calm and collected, patiently waiting for him to serve us when he could and left peacefully. I was close to patting him on his shoulder and tell him to get good rest soon when he just stood there looking distressed and tired until he had to serve another table. I was so close. Everyone deserves a happy New Year. I had to believe in the power of prayer and ask that he and the other men get the rest and peace that they deserve.
