Small Dream Ada is an indie chamber band, founded by poet and singer Alaina Ferris and jazz composer Tyler Gilmore. It weaves formal influences of classical and jazz with lyrical and surrealistic poetry. The title of their project, Golden Propeller, is inspired by its artistic vision: how art can be driven by the imagination, the mythological, the subconscious, yet is also propelled by consciousness and daily life.

Alaina Ferris is a singer, composer, and poet. She grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada, where she learned to play piano with her father at age 9. Alaina later moved to Longmont, Colorado where she lived and studied for ten years. She attended the University of Denver, where she received a B.A. in English-Creative Writing and a B.A. in Music from the Lamont School of Music. She has won awards for her compositions and arrangements from the U.N.C. Greeley Jazz Festival (2008, 2009) and won a University Research Grant to write a book of poems (2008). She currently teaches private music lessons in Brooklyn, New York.

Tyler Gilmore is an award-winning composer who has garnered national recognition and awards for his work with Ninth + Lincoln, his contemporary big band, including the 2009 ASCAP Columbia College Commision in honor of Hank Jones and ASCAP Young Jazz Composer's award in 2008, 2009, 2010. He grew up in rural Wyoming before moving to Colorado and obtaining his music degree from U.N.C. Greeley. Tyler will begin attending the New England Conservatory of Music in Fall 2011.
