The second character I'll try my hand at is Aeon, the one original character created specifically for this game and the instigator of this whole train wreck of a plot hole...although why exactly he does so is a secret for another day. Well, I suppose really there's no harm in it in the long run, since technically it all never happened in the first place if everything works out all right in the end anyway...isn't time travel great?!

Aeon is a time traveler prone to sounding like a totally smug jackass and making cheesy time puns. Maybe it's just me, but he reeks of being some kind of know-it-all Mary Sue type. "Your power is great, but you can't compete with Time. I mean, what can? It's TIME. So you already lost, because I'm from the future." That's the sort of impression I get from him. He's a real heel and a hog for the limelight, so you'd better get used to him. Not that you couldn't tell already that he'd be important, given his appearance in the opening cinematic sequence.

Where Simon has his legendary whip, the Vampire Killer, Aeon has his trusty...clock...sword...thing. It's actually a pretty cool weapon, but it's also an impossibly cool and improbably effective weapon the likes of which is necessary to match Aeon's inherent lack of flaws.

The main signature moves that Aeon performs are based around his clock's glow which gradually changes as battle goes on. With no glow, he can make a huge vertical slash of incredible range. When it glows blue, he can fire off a massive laser of ridiculous duration. With a green glow, the clock's hands will extend outward in a horizontal sweeping motion in both directions simultaneously three times around. Once the clock reaches its maximum charge and glows gold, you can stop time within a rather wide radius from the activation point. Each of these moves can be performed as his charge special either on the ground or in the air.

The only one of those three that you don't really get to see to its maximum effect is the blue laser, but you do get to see the initial hit. Imagine that, but extended for as long as the sound clip goes on with a slight damage decay as the attack racks up more hits. Oh, and did I mention? It's unblockable. It's a pretty fearsome move for just the first level of charge, that's for sure.

Additionally, if you don't want to wait for the clock to pick up its charge, Aeon's uncharged special attacks can increase it by one level if the enemy strikes Aeon in the middle of its execution. The non-directional special is a parry using the face of the clock as a shield ("I beg your pardon?!") and the directed variant is a nigh-unstoppable charge ending in a slash attack. The former is only good against direct attacks and the latter seems better equipped for rushing through projectiles.

Aeon's Hyper Attack finishing move is unique among all the characters in that he doesn't need to land a direct hit. instead, he makes a clock appear underneath his opponent. When the hands of the clock travel the whole way around once, he will snap his fingers and the Hyper Attack will begin immediately. Sounds simple, right? The real problem is that one stray blow will interrupt the whole thing, and you'll have to build your Hyper Gauge back up again from scratch, just like with any other failed Hyper Attack. That's why it's usually a good idea to use the clock's gold aura special to freeze the enemy first. There's more than enough time if you can manage to land the time freeze first.

If you can believe it or not, Aeon isn't even the first time traveler to appear in a Castlevania game. In Curse of Darkness for the Playstation 2, a minor character showing up now and again is the mysterious Saint Germain who may or may not be some relation or associate of Aeon's.

You may be wondering why Simon has blue hair this time around, well, that's because of the secondary costume choice I applied to the computer player. I know you didn't have a point of comparison for Dracula in the first match, but I'm giving all the AI-controlled characters the alternate color scheme so as to give them a little exposure.

Each character technically has four costume choices, but the third and fourth options are actually just for selecting the first and second color schemes with whatever custom accessories you decided to add to a particular character. Most of those are unlocked by playing through Castle Mode, so I don't have all that many as of yet.

  • I didn't notice it in the previous video for some reason, but the fact that the two characters in the select screen turn to glare at each other is funny.

These guys have a lot of voice clips for specific opponents, don't they?

  • I'm always surprised when all the sudden some character will specifically address another...but then again, it seems sometimes that whatever random factor decides what they will say can be pretty dead-set upon not using their most appropriate lines, so maybe that's part of the plan...by lulling me into a false sense of security that I've heard it all, they can pull out stuff like "Traveler of time"...

At least "Immortal one" refers to several characters, so I'd heard that one before.

  • So they sometimes use their against-anybody lines rather than specific-character ones?

  • Yes, like you've seen when Dracula and Alucard fought in that string of Wi-Fi matches...they obviously do have things to say to one another, but instead they just addressed each other as they might any other opponent.

  • Round 1, Ready?

    Aeon: *Run away*

  • This makes me want to make a vid of every single instance of Aeon saying the word 'Time'. :p

  • Oh, I thought there just weren't any lines put in, as if someone overlooked that there'd be something special going on when a man has to fight his father.
