This video was filmed while my sister and I visited my grandpa and aunt in Ottumwa, Iowa during July of 1996. I was four years old at the time (almost five), and my aunt would take us down to the station almost every day to see Amtrak. On a couple days, grandpa came down with his video camera and filmed the train coming in. You can hear me in the background in a couple places, especially at the end where I say "hey, that doesn't have any FRED!" upon seeing the end of the train. Since I now live near Ottumwa and have had the privilege to videotape Amtrak here countless times since 2002, this footage is very priceless today! Old F40's and a "Pepsi Can" Dash 8, mail cars, and Phase III and IV Superliners can all be seen in this video. Plus, the train was much longer than it is today. Back then the Zephyr still had cars from the Desert Wind and Pioneer trains, and the train was so long that they actually did two stops at Ottumwa! Wow!
That train almost looks like it is doubled up, as in it looks like two trains in one. I think I see two diner cars and almost two train sets on one train. Odd, I wonder why they did this with the train.
And to top it off, Dash 8 with Pepsi can paint!
Once in a life time video right here!
