JAWBONE
The Band
The Band (1970)

Oh, Jawbone, when did you first go wrong?
Oh, Jawbone, where is it you belong?

Three time looser, you'l never learn,
Lay down your tools before you burn.
Ya keep on runnin' and hidin' your face,
spreadin' your heat all over the place.

I'm a thief and I dig it!
I'm up on a beef, I'm gonna rig it!
I'm a thief and I dig it!

Oh, Jawbone, why don't cha sit and moan?
Oh, Jawbone, you know that it's stone for stone.
Sneak through the night upon your toes,
To look in your eye, it never shows.
Your name upon the post office wall,
Put you on edge 'cause they wrote it too small!

I'm a thief and I dig it!
I'm up on a beef, I'm gonna rig it!
I'm a thief and I dig it!

Oh, Jawbone, revenge stays on your mind.
Oh, Jawbone, you been doin' too much time.
Pull off a job with an inside man,
who needs the cash and likes your plan.
Then you will know just who to thank,
when you land right back in the tank.

I'm a thief and I dig it!
I'm up on a beef, I'm gonna rig it!
I'm a thief and I dig it!

Oh, Jawbone, why dont'cha go home?
Oh, Jawbone, where is it you belong?
Boostin' and goin' out on the lam,
Ya know that you'll steal anything that you can.
Temptation stands just behind the door,
So what you wanna go and open it for?

I'm a thief and I dig it!
I'm up on a beef, I'm gonna rig it!
I'm a thief and I dig it!

  • richard in white. everybody else in funeral darks. they were best there ever was, they are the best that ever will be.

  • @Poltergeist40 shit to add on to my previous comment, how about don't do it? you are insane!

  • @Poltergeist40 how do you only enjoy levon's voice in those songs? cripple creek ophelia? these sounds so good they must have been written for his voice!

  • Had the mix of white & back popular music genres known as rock & roll had taken place in the 30's instead of the 50's, this is what it might have sounded like. The Band manages to take rock back to an era where it hadn't yet been invented, and sounds 100% authentic in the process.

  • i'm a thief! and i dig it!

  • The octave and timing stuff make the chorus go top-over.

  • This album cam eout in 1969.....mot 1970.

  • @cdphatty Richard big time

  • @cdphatty Rick rolls his rs (for lack of a better phrase). I can now tell whose voice belongs to whom.To me Richard's voice is the best and most moving by far. Although Rick's certainly too has his moments.. great in Unfaithful Servant. And a few others where he does a great job. As for Levon. I only like his voice in Evangeline and The Night they drove old Dixie down. It was right that Levon did the lead vocals on that as he's from Arkansas so very appropriate to have a Southerner singing it.

  • @macvoutie greatest band, greatest rock singer ever. TOO SOON GONE
