The making of One-Armed Bandit Tour 2010 stage decor.
Follow the process with our hero and handyman, Asgeir Henriksen. The design is taken from Yokoland's cover art for the 2010 Jaga Jazzist album, "One-Armed Bandt". It's obviously inspired by slot machines, fruit machines, poker machines etc.. Just like the music on the album.
"All of a sudden many of the tunes started exhibiting these arpeggio tendencies, says Lars Horntveth, musical leader of Jaga. And so the notion of the slot machine and the arpeggio element became a kind of guiding concept for the whole record." - Lars Horntveth
"Slot machines are also known as one-armed bandits because slot machines were originally operated by a lever on the side of the machine (the one arm) instead of a button on the front panel, and because of their ability to leave the gamer penniless. Many modern machines still have a legacy lever in addition to the button." - Wikipedia
Jaga Jazzist wanted to incorporate this element into the live show as well, mostly because we thought it would look very cool... but also because it's supercorny and absurd :-)
