Patient and Caregiver Symposium held in Ann Arbor, MI at University of Michigan Institute in which leading melanoma expert Dr. Vernon Sondak talks about melanoma treatments and indoor tanning.
So what he's saying: Your skin starts to make a tan once your vitamin D production for the day is done. This tan will protect your skin. Conclusion: a tan is not good. ??? Shouldn't that be: get your vitamin D level up so you have some natural protection?
The apparent absence of vitamin D protection for prostate cancer is a special case, btw. Most probably due to the D levels influencing testosterone. When you have got prostate cancer your vitamin D level predicts your chances of survival though.
For example the research data at 10:50 was for a study where they gave people 400 IU D3. Which is nothing compared to the 10-20 000 that your skin can make. This did not change the blood levels of the participants very much. A second look at the data in another paper still revealed that the 25(OH)D level is related to the cancer risk. You need about 75 IU D3 per kg bodyweight.
The melanoma genome research appears sound though :)

Why is this guy trying to twist research into his personal opinions?
