Wonderful and valuable that he is, Is Kauffman saying anything radically new to the contemporary West? second third generation Western dharmics that dont subtly seek salvatiion outside of themselves might support the view that 'agency is god enough for me.' I certainly would.
Pablo, the solution to the Naturalistic Fallacy, that one cannot derive ought from is, lies in the reality that we are in no way objective observers, but rather, we are embedded agents with an evolved nature which determines our "oughts", shaped entirely by what "is."
Interesting stuff. I've been struggling with reductionism: Can meaning be reduced to atoms? Can qualia be reduced to neurons? Can anything exist without a pattern imposed on it... or do the patterns emerge from the parts, though not identical to the parts? If agents are subsets, does that mean they will ultimately be reduced to 'happenings'? But how can one reduce value to those happenings, how can one reduce value to fact? What of the mystic who experiences the ineffable patterning...

Calgary, where this video was filmed, is a kind of sleepy city in central Canada. The mere 129 views is unfortunate.
