It's actually a great idea, but ofcourse this has been tried. Like hamcheesesalami said it's a way to get more control over your stick movement with the ball, with a bigger stick controlling the ball is merely impossible and you can put more force in a blow or in a pass with a normal stick

this sport you call lame is (i think it was) the 3rd most dangerous in the world. it is not for the lame, but for the courageous and daring! try it sometime! it's a lot harder than it looks :P
