At a total cost of more than 3.1 million lives, the Vietnam conflict is, to date, Americas
longest and most controversial war. It also marked the first time TV journalists ventured to
the frontlines to bring the spectacle of combat into American living rooms. Across the nation,
Americans watched, captivated by the surprise Tet Offensive and the slow-motion tragedy of
the 77-day Battle of Khe Sanh, and inspired by the courage and skill of American soldiers at
decisive engagements like Ia Drang Valley, Con Thien, and Dak To.

This special THE HISTORY CHANNEL collection profiles the decision-makers of the Vietnam War
and chronicles each key event, from the advisors arrival in 1959 to the airlift from the roof
of the American Embassy in 1975. Archival footage and interviews with historians and veterans
reveal the military and political strategies in play, and CBS News archives take viewers to
the frontlines to witness the daily struggles of American servicemen and women.

Combining interviews with Vietnam veterans and the actual footage from CBS News coverage,
the viewer is given a glimpse into the war that has rarely been seen. Battle stories are
heart breaking enough in the words of the veterans, but coupled with the news footage and
reporting (for the first time from the front lines,) it becomes a greater more personal grief.

  • @PfunkGW Now I can tell you're about 14 years old... To call a well published author and economist "debunked" and then change the subject immediatly to me in the next sentence is both childish and ignorant. You've never even heard of John Perkins. You can't put together an arguement to any of my statements. All you've done is spew a pile of semantic garbage. Therefore I must digress, that your arguement itself proves you to be nothing more than a youtube generation, mediocre, Idiot...

  • @GodlessMartyr666 HAHAHA John Perkins is a debunked author. Your worldview is seriously deluded. PLEASE learn about skepticism and how to judge truth from fiction. It really pains me on a personal level to see that there are people out there who are unable to judge reality and who base worldviews on half baked nonsense.

  • @PfunkGW actually the NSA has been actively involved in global market corruption for decades, according to John Perkins, published writer and author of the book Confessions of an economic hitman... "these issues are complex" is the most utterly vague statement I've ever been confronted with in my life, if you can't present some sort of substantiated arguement and have to resort to a no-knowledge remark like that you obviously don't have an opinion worth the space its written on...

  • @GodlessMartyr666 This isnt a comic book, moron. There are no such thing as econo-terrorists. Please stop being so simplistic with idiotic conspiracy theories. The internet is full of idiots like you. Use some critical thinking. These issues are complex and deserve real, factual, historical analysis not uneducated nutcases spouting off.

  • and if you try to go off saying the russians wouldn't simply support the communist takeover of a country to stimulate their own economy, you're dead wrong. In fact, the united states itself is doing it today, albeit in true capitalist fashion with the owners of major corporations doing business with the military ( ahem, halliburton ) rising to the top of the contract driven industrial weapons market. These people ( ahem, D. Cheney ) are honest to god crooks of the worst kind. Econo-terrorists...

  • see, the communists HAVE to cause wars and develop and manufacture weapons systems because their entire economy rests on the govt's ability to stimulate GNP. And for the most part, russians aren't very good at building much other than cheap , easy to use and reliable weapon systems, and vodka... That's why capitalism stormed past and took over the world. Unfortunately we left it up to major banks and foreign exchange to stimulate domestic growth, which backfired when china turned to capitalism.

  • @Abortionshouldbefree and no, despite your claim the soviet union was not technically "allies" with vietnam or korea. The communist chinese were in large part the mitigating factor and russia would never have employed nuclear weapons against the united states over a small satellite like vietnam... OR korea... This was chinese nationalists supporting communist forces which were aided by soviet supply lines. The soviets were stimulating their economy through arms deals /w PRC

  • @Abortionshouldbefree What I said is the US army went around cutting the hands and heads off every support system the viet cong were granted via systematic destruction of the villages harboring them and the villagers who supported them. When I say it would have saved alot of time to nuke north korea it means the entire vietnam conflict could have been completely avoided by forcing the communists out of east asia, crippling soviet supply chains with an anti communist bastion

  • @GodlessMartyr666 sorry, are you talking about vietnam or north korea? because you make reference to the viet cong, then go on and reference to nuking north korea...

and the reason why america didn't nuke vietnam or north korea, was because they were both allied to the soviet union, who had nuclear weapons, and the prc, who had a huge, huge population. the usa didn't want to be responsible for causing world war III.
