Nine rebel fighters have died in efforts to drive Libyan government soldiers out of the town of Qwalish.

Seven of the nine fighters who died on Wednesday were from Zintan, a remote western town of Libya.

The people of Zintan have always had a fearsome reputation. As rebel fighters against government forces, they have been at the forefront of efforts to make this mountain area safe.

They say that they will not accept anything less than the end of Gaddafi's government, even if this equates to their own death.

"We are fighting to die, they are fighting to live," is the slogan they chant.

Al Jazeera's Jonah Hull reports from Zintan, Libya.

  • @gjghgjgh I wonder why all terrorist supporters supporting rebels and pretending to be rebels reside in UK, probably this is because rebel hired PR agency Bell is based there?

  • "I kill you. I kill you."

    If he only knew. LMAO

  • @phooey108 CNN and AlJazeera have some videos with conspiracy theories about rapes ordered in Libya and black african mercenaries. I prefer the Bilderberg meetings bs at least it does not spred hate they way other 2 chanels do.

  • @phooey108 I see but NATO only acts when wars and in self defense such as 9/11 if you believe in it or not it was declared to all allies that the US was attacked by a foreign country that refused to hand over murderers but if Turkey intervenes it would be an act of war and a aggression and the Syrian army is trained to fight Israel and Turkey is far inferior and they fear that Syria might arm the hated by both large restive Kurdish people that live along both borders.

  • @Soldior

The US wont do anything in Syria unless the Turks do it first. I am telling you, the main threat of armed intervention in Turkey isnt coming from the europeans or americans, it's coming from the Turks. If the Turks intervene, NATO could be drawn in, since the Turks are NATO members.

  • @phooey108

No NATO is the US the European arm is horribly stretched but who expects them to do anything serious ?

The US is worried because unlike Libya the Syrian army has access to hurt the US trough its beloved Israel and THAT cannot be taken lately. Remember that Syria is a larger country and the botched campaign against Libya hurt the hawks in NATO and Syria has a far larger army with missiles and Hezbollah that won against full NATO weapons invasion...... dont hold your breath.

  • @Soldior

it is in the context of syria's crackdown, where the possibility of a NATO intervention is extremely low at the moment. NATO is stretched thin at the moment. You and I both know, the only way NATO intervenes in Syria is if Assad radically escalated the killing, creates tens of thousands of refugees (especially in the Kurdish regions) and elicits military response from Turkey. As of now RT is using NATO to distract people's attention from the brutality of the Assads.

  • @phooey108 lol NATO leaders that are illegally publicly doing a regime change is unrelated ??

  • @phooey108 They do but the key is Israels security here and regardless how much they hate him the Israelis said that its better to have the devil you know then the devil you don't know.... they know Assad's limits and interests and sadly there no credible minority they can use to divide and conquer ...

See Iraq's example of using Shia&Kurds vs Arab Sunni's and Northern Alliance vs Pushtun majority in Afghanistan. In Libya this is done by Cyrineicans&Berber vs Tripolitanians&AfroLibyans

  • @Soldior

The United States doesnt want Bashar al Assad to leave. Listen to what the Obama admin has been saying. "Reform or leave"....that means the US backs a Syria under Assad, albeit weak and discredited.

  • @gjghgjgh

Need to make a referendum because it seems like only a few support the rebels if they where to not shoot civilians that oppose them....bit. ly/nCkem4
