Hi - Mike? Like Peter I was a regular in the Bull's Head in the late 70s/80s - and then later Tony taught me for about 3 years in the mid 80s. I spent many happy hours with both him and Olga in Kingston - he was an absolute inspiration to me - and she was always lovely - I always thought he was the number one british pianist and never understood (still don't) why he didn't get the acclaim that he deserved. he blows away Stan Tracy etc anyday - be fantastic to see more of these!

Yeah I agree - this is why I put the clip up. The original drummer was Tony Mann if I remember correctly (the Uk's answer to Jimmy Cobb) and bassist Tony Archer got a fabulous sound.

But in the mid-70's when was booking the trio in Liverpool the UK jazz scene had been taken over by The Jazz Center Society who appeared to be a bunch of po-faced twats from Scottish Universities with a very clear Ultra-Trendy-Leftie agenda.

The rule was ' Suppport anything - provided it didn't swing!"

The solo by Stan is very good.Tony Lee trio backed all the top names at Barnes and I went there many times. Great nights.

Loved this video, just thought you ought to know, I have posted a Tony Lee Trio video from 1982, "Tony Lee Trio 1982", that's how I came across your posting. We commissioned Tony to play at our Jazz festival in Hull, and a great show he put on This is just the first Number they played with Pete King (Great Sax Player) I will be uploading more numbers from the show soon. I had the great pleasure of playing drums with the two Ts for a period prior to Phil Seaman, I did.'t mind being rodeout by Phil, he an I remaind friends even after we were double booked one time, we shared the dough. Great gig memories.
