Ball bearings (and marbles, and bb's, cue-balls, etc.) are lots of fun. They stay in the vortex longer than coins because no energy is used up for balance. Check out the student guide on our website (see previous comment...) Steve Divnick

Yes, it is a great example of the Black Hole. We include a discussion about that in our Student Guide at spiralwishingwells(dot)com/guide

Note from manufacturer: The Seven-Footers are $6 grand. The Three-Footers are $1,500 when used for fund raising. But you might want to get one of the mini-Well toy models which are $24.95. They are a lot of fun. You can watch the coins race around the funnel on their own, or you can move the toy in a circular motion and make the coin climb back UP the funnel. Check them out at spiralwishingwells(dot)com/toy.

Large coins like 50-cent pieces have a higher center of gravity than common coins like pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters so they don't spin as long or as far down the throat of the funnel as the smaller coins. Of course, not many people carry them or would drop them in if they had them. Fortunately, there are millions of dollars worth of common coins, and Spiral Wishing Wells are helping to gather up a lot of them for charity.
