A low-water run down the Horsepasture River in the Jocassee Gorges area of SW North Carolina using 2011 and 2012 Alpacka Rafts, January 9, 2012.

Tim Johnson has the green, red and yellow boat; Luc Mehl the primary colored boat, and Roman Dial the yellow.

The hike to Rainbow Falls took about 30 minutes, the hike out from just upstream of Sieve Rapid an hour and a half, and the creek itself five hours. We ran most everything down to the Sieve Rapid above Windy Falls except Ugly Stuff at the top, Corner Pocket, and Thrasher Pike B. Highway to Heaven was particularly fun.

For packrafters with solid Class IV+ skills a low water run can be a classic packrafting adventure. Beware the sieves and wood but enjoy the great slides, drops, plops and easy wa
