Performed at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. Jacobo Ficher was born in Odessa in 1896 and moved the Argentina as a young man, becoming an important force in the musical life of his adopted country. He wrote 10 Symphonies and numerous other works for every medium. His music is a fascinating mixture of South American and Russian influences, creating a strikingly original musical language. This Symphony was written in the late 1950's to commemorate the "Epopeya de Mayo" an event in May of 1810 when the local population repelled an attempted British takeover of Argentina. More on his music at our blog at MusicaNovamusings.com and on our website MusicaNovaAZ.org.

MusicaNova Orchestra has as its mission the performance of unjustly neglected music. Find out more at www.MusicaNovaaz.org. and the MusicaNova blog www.musicanovamusings.org
