I want to play this again. I played this last year for all-county full orchestra... before I die I need to play this. This is the most beautiful song I've ever played

Heard this on the radio today. Simply beautiful work.

As soon as I hear the theme, a sense of pure love comes over me. It is so beautiful - really, this is why we play and write music, afterall, isn't it?

This is what happens when music becomes something else, like a new entity of pure magic.
I salute Howard Hanson, Jerry Goldsmith, Basil Poledouris, the list goes on and on.
This isn't music, this is angels singing
--as much as I loved goldsmiths work on alien , using this cue like gary72carol61 said in the end was a pure genious move.

Anyone want to hear a georgeous 20th century symphony, hear Estonian Eduard Tubin's Fourth Symphony, The Idyllic. Even a not so great performance of it on YouTube cannot obscure its beauty.

@medinasus Anthony Louise Scarmolin's symphonies are lovely too.

@gary72carol61 You know, I remember the ending of that movie, and yes, you're right. I recognized that it was Howard Hanson.
This piece is so beautiful. It may seem strange to say this, but certain places in the composition are reminiscent (to me) of the music in the classic movie, Wuthering Heights, such as at the beginning and also at 5:40. Does anyone else hear it?

@medinasus
I'd have to watch Wuthering Heights to know what you are talking about. The first movement of this symphony is more popular, because it is played at the end credits of Ridley Scott's movie Alien.

The American Vaughan Williams - sorry, I am Brit born and I have my allegiances but that's what it sounds like to me - the most gorgeous US symphony ever written! This entire symphony is so beautiful it hurts! I am so glad I've had a recording of it for 35 years!
You lose the rest coz I'm chopped off.

American Vaughan William most definitely, however, I personally believe Benjamin Britten was the best English composer.
