@TheBettaApprentice actually the tropical fish hobby and the demand for wild caught tropical fish for aquariums may be a very good thing for the environment where these fish live. If people are harvesting these animals they are maybe less likely to destroy the habitat and turn the area into farmland or housing developments.

People who keep wild discus develop an overwhelming tenderness for the Amazon basin and its tributaries. Discus fish in the aquarium hobby is not a problem for the ecology: there are plenty of problems in nature. Hopefully the conditions in Amazonia and the discus habitat will generate some good decisions going forward by collectors and breeders and those concerned with the fate of the wild discus.

Im glad your all collection the discus and everything, but did you ever stop and think how you could go to the pet store and get captive bred ones. I realize how much better wild caught are, but that's their habitat.
