Private Prison Charges Inmates $5 a Minute For Calls

The largest prison facility owned by the Corrections Corporation of America (a private prison in Lumpkin, Georgia) is charging inmates $5 a minute for phone calls while they work for $1 a day. @zboggs100 You are assuming these people are all guilty and deserve their treatment (or you are trolling). But if someone was falsely arrested, arrested for breaking an unjust law (arresting occupy wallstreet protesters but not the tea party for example), or arrested for smoking a flower that isn't right. When we have kids getting arrested for farting in class we have a problem.

@Zooni2 Prison isn't supposed to be fun, no. But prison also shouldn't be a way for corporations to take financial advantage by grossly inflating costs. There's no reason a phone call needs to cost $5 a minute. That's just coportate greed. You shouldn't have to work 5 full days to get one minute to call your lawyer.

TYT corporations pay you and pay it right back to buy their goods, so just like a prison your net gain is ZERO. The USA is a large prison, that is how the system was setup. Inflation, no raises, goods get more expensive, land is owned by a small percentage of Americans. It is the corporate model.

Addressing the issue brought up by the professor in the video about the option of not working: That is NOT an option at CCA. Either you work or go to school. The company does not like non-productive inmates who just sit around all day and do nothing. They will get wrote up quick if they don't work.
