Mendez Mangles Taylor!

Super Bantamweight Johanna "Bam Bam" Mendez of Houston (8-0-1, 2 KO's) faced Geni Taylor of New Orleans in a scheduled four-round bout.

Mendez was coming off a close six-round majority decision win over Christina Ruiz of San Antonio on June 17th.

Taylor came into the match undefeated at 2-0, with 1 KO, most recently taking a unanimous four-round decision over Jasmine Patton in Bay St. Louis Mississippi in January.

Mendez was one of the nation's top amateur female boxers and has continued to stand out as a pro, notching wins over then 11-2 Kasha Chamblin and 5-2 Lisa Lamb in 2009.

In this bout a right hand from Mendez would leave Taylor with a nasty cut early in the second round, and the doctor would stop the contest at :31 of round two, giving Mendez the decision!

boxrec has it listed as tko-2 by injury...i just looked it up...and i was sitting by taylors corner it happen after she threw the jabs and mendez was running they came together briefly and then theres blood...I saw people in the crowd including myself sayin that wasnt right it should have been a no contest....I say they do a rematch!!!!

no matter what mendez was going to get the win .I been there with one of my fighter and he cut the guy twice with his left hand and after the next round they had a head butt and ther cooner stops the fight and they called it a no contest. now thats funny! if it would of been the other way around it would of been a kayo.

that wasn't a headbutt that was a punch. You clearly see it 5:28 she gets hit with a right and that is when she starts touching her face.

Neither fighter is to be blame for this out- come accidents do happen and sometimes are not seen (referes or human to) non of the fighters seemed to be hurt at any time.. Mendez was throwing jabs that Taylor appear to be blocking accept for one great jab which got through in the first round. The later part of the first and early part of the second Taylor seem to be pressing Mendez hard before the bleeding started with Taylor wiping and still pressing foward. It should have been rule no contest.

Responding to JnPphotos; The truth is there was no cut above Taylor's eye it was vertical on the forehead below the hair line, check the video. Taylor had just thrown a nice left hook that glance Mendez when the ref called time (someone quitting don't try to take your head off). The truth is we missed out on seeing a great fight by two of the best up- coming fighters in that wt. division. Maybe in the future they can meet in a netural setting where we the fans can be treated to a great fight.
