@joebobstevemcfrank It's sad you see it that way. Most people who watch these videes or have ridden the train really enjoy it. But as a local I understand your view point. I live in a major tourist town and can't for the life of me figure out why people enjoy it here so much.
it'll be a blessing if it EVER gets back into service. The GSMR's in dire straits right now. I'm an employee in the Dillsboro Depot and they're shutting down my depot as of 8/8/08 and stopping any excursions from there (their popular Tuckasegee River Excursions and Dinner Trains) The poor 1702 has barely been touched since it went out of commission. They're so low on funds they've dismissed almost 40 employees...more may be still to come.
We rode this train in July on our MC trip south, what a disappointment! Not worth the fee we paid.

i live in bryson city and my lord the train is the lamest of all the fun things to do i mean seriously!!!

they are going to start back the tuckasegee train starting june 20. we are going on june 22. it's good to see that excursion coming back!

So, since they've discontinued excursions on the Tuckasegee river, that part of the "Murphy Branch" track has essentially become abandoned?

Really great train ride, very scenic, the layover is also very nice with good food, music, and chance to see the local town.
