  • it's an Ashford Traveler. I like it a lot. I've not had much experience with other wheels but I've certainly heard of the Schacht ladybug. I think all the modern wheels work fine - just choose according to : price, number of treadles (one or two), shape (the upright shape uses less space) and whether or not you need to be able to carry it about easily. Hope you get one to suit.

  • Pianist702 - sorry so late replying (forgot to check gmail :(. I do both - sometimes dye the fleece and sometimes the yarn. Dyeing fleece lets you blend two colors or more on carders or combs before spinning.

    Regards

  • So true. I've been on a lace weight/fingering obsession recently - turned into knitted lace. Such an excuse to avoid spinning thicker yarn "sure I'll just ply several singles together if I want thick stuff" - yeah, right :)

  • Ah that's nice to read Cassie

  • Are you getting a MEW one too :) ?

I'm too busy or too lazy to correct the spelling.

Anyway, you'll surely love the wheel.

  • Pretty good. Knitted 3 rugs so far. Due to get some lessons end of August ib the UK.

  • I'm new at it. I find it's easy to spin fairly crude fiber but it takes a lot of practice to make a really fine yarn. I'm learning and it is great fun. My hubby and son bought it together as a present for me but I think it's about $400!!

  • What kind of wheel are you using? I want to buy one but not sure yet what kind, did you ever hear how the Schacht Ladybug is?

  • Do you dye the wool before or after it's spun into yarn?

  • @SusanShriverHowell

Well sell it to them then, so it doesn't go to waste but call it some fancy name, not "horrible tufts beginner's first".lol.

  • A lovely gift!

  • When we start to spin, it's easy to make bulky yarn with horrible tufts here and there. By the time we learn to spin fine beautiful yarns, then people usually tell us, that bulky yarn with horrible tufts is all the rage;) Thank you for your nice videos! Good job :)

  • I love your videos! You guys are so cute!!
