Oakland Police Open Fire On Protesters, Longshoremen - http://www.newsfrombabylon.com/story/2003/oakland-police-open-fire-protesters...

Almost three years after the bloody police riot at the Port of Oakland that left nine ILWU longshore workers and dozens of anti-war demonstrators injured and scores of protesters and one ILWU business agent arrested, the City of Oakland finally settled the lawsuits against the police. The settlement included not only monetary damages for the injuries and constitutional rights trampled, but new, more restrictive policies on the Oakland Police Department's (OPD) use of force in protest situations.

  • Thats right, troops are overseas fighting for your right to sit there and bitch about the fact that they're over there. Get over yourself, and big woop, tear gas and rubber bullets, too bad they can't use live rounds for this stupid goofy ass shit! :)

  • Giff911 - exactly how does killing Iraqis protect our right to protest here in America ?? Christ, you're brainwashed

  • you stupid hippies deserved it it shows you wouldn't survive a war much less police shooting tear gas and rubber bullets at you if the us is invaded by an opposing army then you would proble be killed instantly because you would be protesting the invasion and end up getting shoot.

  • So you think anti-war protesters should move into more extreme forms of resistance?

  • New York Times - March 20, 2006

OAKLAND, California - A clash between the police and antiwar protesters here nearly three years ago will cost the City of Oakland more than $2 million, including dozens of payouts to people injured when officers fired wooden dowels, bean bags and rubber pellets.

The Oakland City Council is scheduled Tuesday to approve the final payments related to the incident, which was the most violent of many protests nationwide in the early weeks of the Iraq war.

  • Ok kiddies, heres the deal, The first amendment states that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances." The police have no right to stop them unless they pose a threat to themselves or others. I saw nothing that would warrent such an action by the police.
