@freudastaire dont get me wrong. I love SY. But the 1st record (clean syncopated sound, artsy no wave w ith reggae influences) and 2nd record (same as before but start hearing more of their sounds that become trademark) .. the noise didnt hit until around 84. And they were never really fully drenched in it like JAMC was from day 1. MBV no doubt took a clue from JAMC and Sonic Youth combined. Other similar acts sound like MBV too..check out Quique by Seefeel. Classic record.
@mutepg58 indeed, but sonic youth started earlier than all the others. MBV for example sounded different circa 86 and became much more noisier around 87-88. Sonic Youth had by that year 5 years or more. But yes they all share the influences you quoted
@freudastaire saying they're influenced by sonic youth is like saying sonic youth was influenced by them. The jamc, the pixies, sonic youth, mbv, spacemen 3, were all heavily influenced by the same roots. Experimental noise, VU, blues, Phil Spector, 60s surfer pop, etc. Similarities between them are all wonderful coincidences. Unlike today's bands, many who all intentionally try to sound exactly like one of the above mentioned bands (BJM, Raveonettes, BRMC, and so on.. decent bands, but...).
