A cutaway model of the engine of the Wright Flyer. This is on display at the Wright National Monument in Kill Devil Hills, NC. This is in the pavillion where the 2003 reconstruction of the flyer is on display and is part of the exhibit detailing the difficulties in building a reproduction of the 1903 flyer. The engine has no real cooling system and according to the museum displays lost around 74% of it's rated horsepower within a few minutes. It weighs approximately 200 pounds and produced around 12-13 horsepower.
