  • mate, diggman4123 is right. the slouch hat was originally won with the right hand side turned up. this was for mounted units which carried their rifles in the right hand. this was to prevent damage to the hat and so as not to interfere with the rifle during battle. When mounted units became redundant, the slouch was flipped to the left hand side and is now only worn as a ceremonial symbol as all shooting and marksmanship of any sort is now done wearing a 'bush hat'.

  • I'm left handed so its original purpose works for me. Thanks for the input.

  • if u want it on the right, wear it the other derection:)

  • Nice

  • as far as im aware the brim was raised on the left (originaly by a simple pin and improvised for the job) as far back as the new model army, it was to do with when on the march so the rifle (or as most originaly had pikes) could be carried without knocking your hat off.

  • its not ossie its ozzy

  • sorry i mean diggman your right. bakahulk stop telling ya dads war stories

  • current serving member too. your right bakahulk thts the gayest shit ive heard. how its that uniformity.

  • That's what I said, it was worn with what ever side flipped up as to what side you fired with...

  • No need to swear at me. How long have you been in the army for? My dad was in the army for 21 years and left in 1993. He told me that you wore the flipped brim on what ever side you carried your rifle. Like I said, it was traditionaly worn on the left had side and worn that way when it was worn with your dress uniform.
