Are these guys the youngest yirdaki players on YouTube? Mani is 3 years old, still in nappies, and Abala is 5 years old, in his first year at school - albeit prep.

We're just having a bit of fun in the house and backyard. The boys had a haircut in between so that explains the different look... Mani now has a 'landing strip' in the middle of his head thanks to his attempt at giving himself a trim!

Mani and Abala are Djalu's great grandsons, though in Yolngu Matha he calls them "malu" which is also father. The kinship terminology is kinda circular so that after several generations, the kinship terms repeat themselves.

The previous youngest yirdaki player I had on YouTube was "Widi", Selma Guykarri's 6 year old son, check him out here:

  • @wrouillie - Yirdaki is the real name of this instrument, so a comment stated. I wanted to know where the word didgeridoo came from. It doesn't sound anything like the real word Yirdaki.
