  • well what about 2x / 7 = -4 ??? i dont get it

  • @DuckVader64

Another way to read that would be 2/7 times x equals -4. The opposite of multiplying by a fraction is to multiply by it's reciprocal (the fraction flipped over). So, we would multiply both sides by 7/2 ... (7/2)(2/7)x = -4(7/2) ... 1x = -28/2 ... x = -14

    I hope that helps.

  • How ... but you never multiply the X/2 ! Because you would have X/2 times 2 = X4 OR 4X . Can someone please explain this or the last equation ?

  • Hi,

When you multiply a fraciton by a whole number, you only multiply the top number.

    2 times x/2 is: 2(x/2) = 2x/2 = 2/2 x = 1x = x
