IEEE is the world's largest scientific, educational and professional society with over 370,000 members in more than 160 countries. Through its members, the IEEE is a leading authority in areas ranging from aerospace, computers and telecommunications to biomedicine, electric power and consumer electronics.

Forty years ago, the first Internet message was sent from the UCLA School of Engineering to the Stanford Research Institute.
