'2,000 years of damage against humanity' is a rather harsh accusation against Christianity. I know many for whom religion has been the only guard against a life of utter despair. Just think, a Catholic might see the virtuous morale of St. Alexis(Alessio) and be encouraged to improve his/her own morals, just as you saw the virtuous singing of those countertenors and were encouraged to improve your own singing. Good Luck btw :)

(sigh) this is a mistake sooo many people make. But his voice is SOOO NOT FEMALE.

lol you favor dramatic voices over lyric voices. You'd probably like David Daniels better as far as counter-tenors go. I personally still hear a distinction between a woman's voice and Jaroussky's but I'm a mega band geek/choir boy multi-instrumentalist lol

"ALESSIO"-DVD RELEASE: MARCH 17
It's now available for pre-order on Amazon GB (region 2).
Hopefully, Christie and Jaroussky will secure this unique historical avantgarde piece enough commercial success to encourage future projects.
Thanks to the Barberinis for sponsoring its publication (1634), thereby saving it through a time when few operas outlasted the events they were made for, and to "Les Arts Florissants" and collaborators for their respectful musical and theatrical recreation.

O my God. this guy really sounds like a woman and not a counter tenor. Actually it turns me off. Sorry. I love darker men's voices better. OR darker counter tenor. No doubt he is a good singer, but DIO! Something about that thin tone.
DVD: SPRING 2008
Good news! "Les Artes Florissants" sent me this message: "Alessio" comes on a DVD during spring 2008, by Virgin Classics!
NB! If you want to compensate for its static scenery - the only NOT perfect aspect (unlike singing & costumes) - see the 2003-reprint "Il S. Alessio" by Arnaldo Forni Ed. Admire the 8 marvellous large 1634-engravings of the illusionistic, variated scenes made for the opera by Pietro da Cortona.
