In this session I'm pacing Steve in his black Evo X after a warmup lap and then real him in. Considering his car is mostly stock with just a basic tune it was just a matter of time but he knows the lines well on the track. Later I catch a silver Z06 running street tires that has a bit more speed on the straights but I catch him in the turns and braking zones. After a few laps I attempt to brake at the 300 ft mark for turn 1 and found that once the anti-locks engaged fully it was not nearly as good stopping power as threshold braking since I overcooked the corner.

This is my daily driver and was setup for reliable operation at 25 psi boost (~500 crank HP @ 3500 lbs). Temperatures were warm in the high 70's and I was reaching ~145 mph on the back stretch without traffic on the first day.

  • I've since learned to Heal Toe downshift but honestly the car is very stable and the transmission doesn't upset the balance that bad to absolutely require it on my particular car. Pushing a Corvette Z06 at a driving school showed that it was really important to learn and it has made the Evo X a bit faster and more stable when entering a corner at the limits.

  • If he had the SST trans he would have just paddle shifted. But they should have insured he had some heel and toe experience before moving him to solo. He is smooth and a good drive non the less. Keep having fun and getting seat time as you get more powerful cars you will need the H&T more and more unless you have Sequential shifters or paddle shifters

  • You should really learn to heel n toe down shift. I find it weird they sign off on a driver and he cant even heel n toe!
