@alynwhite its because Kojiro was known by his long sword. Musashi carved a wooden sword longer than Kojiro's sword to gain advantage. That is how Musashi defeats his enemies... by reading them studying them and using psychological manipulation as well. He was 4 hours late in this duel. he had to be woken up from his bed, he even ate a full breakfast without urgency. The sheath of the sword would add length to Kojiro's sword and would match Musashi's wooden sword.
