  • They should re-record Ember To Inferno! They could make it so much better! His screaming is actually good now! And he could do agressive singing in spots where it wouyld fit. It would be amazing!

  • @BloodReverence Whey, high fives and pudding for all!

  • @MetalguitarlessonsUK Ohh I see what you're saying now. My original interpretation on what you said was "He plays a pull-off at the start of the descending sweep and that makes it sloppy" now i understand you mean "He sweeps down and then hammer-ons back up the arpeggio." In this sense, yes I totally agree with you.

Sorry about all the confusion and whatnot.

  • @BloodReverence sound cleanish but not clean playing sound sloppy. Hammer on's are one of the easiest techniques to master on the guitar, players like Matt heafy or Brendan Small are unlikely to mess up two simple hammer ons in a row, especially on something they both play as often as sweep picking thus I dont think those examples sound sloppy because they messed up the hammer ons, I think its just because that 'cheating' (ish) way of sweeping sounds plain bad.

  • @BloodReverence No im saying the guy in that video is doing it properly (ie sweeping the descending notes as well as the ascending) and that when compared to that the two examples I gave of hammer on sweeps do sound sloppy. I dont think the way a song is mixed can make something go from sounding clean to sloppy really, if anything it does the opposite, if you place something low down the mix then the mistakes will be less obvious and many will be hidden altogether, it can make sloppy playing

  • @MetalguitarlessonsUK Are you saying the guy in that video is sloppy? I wouldn't go that far. He plays pretty well actually. His sweeping is pretty damn clean. I'll agree with Thunderhorse sounding sloppy, although I do believe it's more in the way the sweeps were mixed into the song that made it hard to hear the individual notes. Torn Between Scylla sounds a bit sloppy. If you play with proper technique, the pull-off will be just as loud as a picked note, thought not quite as defined.

  • @BloodReverence approach to arpeggios and I think both sound super sloppy, compare those to say this video here of some guy doing them what I would class as 'properly' and I think you will agree they just sound sloppy, like a failed attempt at sweeping or something. Then again I am a bit of a technique nazi so there ya go :P

    /watch?v=kFG9lWhDBtQ&NR=1

(skip to 24 seconds in for the sweeps)

  • @BloodReverence Thanks, but I still think it sounds sloppy. When you hammer on those descending notes the tone is of course very different to the swept ones and inevitably they stick out less so it almost sounds as though you have miss hit the descending part, it no longer sounds smooth and consistant, just choppy and broken up which to my ears is sloppy. LIsten to say the sweeps in torn between scylla and charybids and thunderhorse (the metalocalypse song) both clearly have the hammer on

  • @MetalguitarlessonsUK You're a good guitar player, I'll give you that, but it doesn't make it sloppy at all. Only an inexperienced player would be sloppy by doing those pull-offs.

  • im gonna have a BLAST learning matts solo lol

  • Woah, I had no idea Matt did the solo in this song, the sweeps in the studio version sound far too clean to be his...with the 3 string ones he usually hammers on the descending notes every time which makes it far easier but also sounds hella sloppy and looses alot of the smoothness yet the studio version of this are picked for sure...wierd.
