Paul Weyrich, "father" of the right-wing movement and co-founder of the Heritage Foundation, Moral Majority and various other groups tells his flock that he doesn't want people to vote. He complains that fellow Christians have "Goo-Goo Syndrome": Good Government. Classic clip from 1980. This guy still gives weekly strategy sessions to Republicans nowadays. The entire dialog from the clip:
"Now many of our Christians have what I call the goo-goo syndrome — good government. They want everybody to vote. I don't want everybody to vote. Elections are not won by a majority of people, they never have been from the beginning of our country and they are not now. As a matter of fact, our leverage in the elections quite candidly goes up as the voting populace goes down."

The GOP didn't push for voter ID laws. These "laws," like the fraudulent "stand your ground" laws were wholly written by the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) which was founded by Weyrich. Not a single elected official typed or wrote a single word of any of these "laws." They were entirely written by ALEC ... nothing more than a group of uber-conservative zealots, American Taliban. The GOP sheep were told to pass these laws or ALEC would strongly fund their opponent candidates.

This is the very reason the RNC has used their illegal and highly effective "voter caging" tactic to remove tens of thousands, if not millions, of registered voters from the local voter rolls. In 2000 and 2004 this strategy, coupled with collusion with voting technology companies and software "hacks" to change results, were successful in denying Al Gore and John Kerry victories.

I don't agree with the pay to vote idea at all, it is discriminatory. However, I don't want uniformed people voting either. It would be nice if natural and civil rights weren't up for a vote, that's all I want

No, I don't want uniformed people voting on things that effect me. For example, do you think it is just that people vote to keep gays from marrying, or to put drug users in jail?

That's the hypocritical argument that only people that agree with YOU should vote.
What's next ? Poll Taxes? Oh, wait. We already have Voter ID laws, that deny people that don't own cars from voting.
Got to go to Court to get your Birth Certificate mess straightened out? That will take a day off work, and $250 in Court costs.
Making someone PAY to vote is discriminatory.

America was founded on DEMOCRACY. The principle that Kings and Princes should not rule, but the People.
If you can pick and choose WHO gets to vote, then I get to deny YOU the Right.
And we end up with Kings and Princes again.
Wake up and smell the hypocrisy.

So... you don't want people that disagree with you to vote.
Yup. You're a Libertarian, all right. Except for the part about denying liberty and the right to vote to other people.

Oh, you're half-right. ALEC did write the Voter ID laws. But the GOP enthusiastically embraced them as part of their "Southern Strategy", just another attempt at grabbing more power than they have votes to back them up.
If the GOP didn't push for Voter ID, then how DID it get passed ? Democrats certainly didn't vote for it.

No I'm not fooling anyone. I obviously don't agree with racism but I sure as hell don't want young kids who don't know anything voting away my liberties

You want us to believe the raving adherents of Fox News are more are more informed than regular Americans? Or that this modern version of the poll tax and the so-called literacy tests in the South had nothing to do with repressing the Black vote? I think you're fooling yourself because you are not fooling us.
